Most young cricketers dream of playing cricket in Australia. It will be a new experience and one you should not miss! Australians are passionate about the game and this is reflected through the local club sides. Whether you are representing the 1st XI or 6th grade the competition is fierce. Local cricket clubs will run as many as 8 sides, of varying abilities, all playing matches over the weekend. On the field the temperatures can be stifling and the sledging brutal but off the field you will make mates that will last a lifetime and share more laughs than you ever thought possible. Cricket clubs are very social places and there is always something happening after a game.
Playing cricket in Australia is easy if you are part of the ACE Academy. Not only will we find your club for you and take care of the admin, we will make sure you are ready to give your very best performance at match days. You will rise and fall within the club sides dependent upon your match results so it makes sense to make the most of your time and dedicate the rest of the week to make sure you are performing at your best. This will mean a lot of cricket practice.
To cope with the heat and conditions down under you will need to be fit; we will build up your fitness levels so you become the fittest you have ever been. Fitness training will include the aerobic stuff and activities to develop your own specific cricket discipline.
Australian cricketers are mentally very tough; we will give you the tools and mentoring to help you with this crucial aspect of your game.
You will also train with your club side on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; it is a time to get to know the cricketers better in the other teams; Thursday night is selection and social night. The ACE Academy will chose your club side for you but it is the clubs selection committee that will decide where you will play each week. Another good reason to be part of the ACE Academy is to make sure you are moving up the grades and return home with a decent seasons stats under your belt rather than let the distractions of the sunshine and beach take full control of your week!
ACE Cricket Coaching have relationships with many of the District and Suburban Turf Cricket sides and each season have places reserved for cricketers at the Academy. We take all the hard work out of you finding and organising yourself at a decent club.
You will be part of the physical training at the club as well mid week net sessions. Games take place on Saturdays and Sundays. With all clubs having a minimum of 4 teams, and some with as many as 10, you can imagine there is a great atmosphere within each club; clearly reflected in the mass of social activity which takes place at each club throughout the week!
At the ACE Academy we work hard and play hard to guarantee we have done all we can in preparation for our next big game.
WACA District Competition (formerly Vodafone Cup)
Fixtures
The WACA District Competition is WA's premier club cricket competition and the breeding ground for our future Test and WA champions. Contested between the 16 WACA District Clubs, competition between clubs has been both passionate and fierce since Metropolitan first claimed the premiership in 1885-86.
First and second grade competition is played on most Saturdays and some Sundays during the season, while third and fourth grade competition is limited to Saturday cricket only. When a club’s first and second grade teams play a two-day fixture on the Saturday-Sunday of a weekend, third and fourth grade play a one-afternoon match on the Saturday only.
Sunday League
Fixtures
Formerly known as the Don’t Drink and Drive Shield, the WACA’ s Sunday League is a one-day competition played between the 16 WACA District Clubs as well as two additional teams nominated to represent the Country and Metropolitan affiliated associations.
Divided into 4 divisions, teams play each other once during a round-robin format before the two highest placed teams in each division qualify for the quarter-finals. At the final stage competition becomes a knockout format leading up to a spectacular Grand-final, played under lights each season at the WACA Ground.
Carlton Mid Colts
Fixtures
The Carlton Mid Colts competition is almost identical to the Sunday League, except that qualification is restricted to players under 21 years of age. The Colts competition provides a great opportunity for younger club cricketers to experience a high standard of competition designed to continue their development into senior cricket. While the grand-final is not played at the WACA Ground, competition is just as fierce and passionate as it is in the seniors.
Masters
Fixtures
Masters Competition provides clubs with the perfect excuse to celebrate our great game and retain the involvement of senior players after their bodies have decided not to go where the mind is willing. To qualify for Masters players must be over 35 years of age, available to play on the occasional Sunday afternoon and able to shout team-mates at the bar in the event of scoring a duck or dropping a catch.
