"So it's Monday morning and it's time for the beach session... typically this session alternates between interval training, cricket specific fitness drills and games (touch rugby etc.) and is designed to peak you for your season upon finishing the ACE program. At three points during the season you will undergo fitness tests. The fitness testing battery is the standard protocol used by Cricket Australia and includes the YoYo test, sprint times and running between the wicket times.
Laurence may also get you involved in his PhD research at the University of Western Australia. Here they have been investigating physical fatigue in prolonged batting innings - including the possibility of decreased elastic energy in the legs. The research requires carrying out a 2 hour batting simulation (BATEX) incorporating PitchVision(TM) technology. The BATEX simulation incorporates running between the wickets, concentration and skill assessment. It is a useful training tool that helps you learn how to bat for a long time - certainly an experience participants will not quickly forget!
