Physical fitness is crucial and improves every facet of the cricketer's
game.
Each cricketer will have his own fitness training programme
which reflects his specific needs. The majority of the time we will
bring the cricketer out of
the gym - Perth will be his play ground for these fitness sessions.
Besides
improving overall levels of fitness, the programme will focus on
those areas specific to the needs
of the game of cricket
e.g. the fitness needs of an opening batsman are quite different
to those of an opening bowler.
Weight sessions build strength which is a vital component for hitting the ball harder, bowling faster and throwing further. Exciting boxing circuits will improve anaerobic fitness and strength invaluable to all cricketers. It will support batsman and wicket keepers to be both lighter and faster on their feet plus develop hand/eye co-ordination. Speed drills to enhance your running between the wickets and fielding will take the form of sprints and shuttle runs on the beach. Your fitness programme seeks to educate and will teach good practice regarding flexibility; vital for injury prevention.
Doing the "hard yards" on this programme will be fun.

Strength and Conditioning Coach - Laurence Houghton
"So it's Monday afternoon and it's time for the running session... typically this session alternates between interval training, cricket specific fitness drills and games (touch rugby etc.) and is designed to peak you for your season upon finishing the ACE program. At three points during the season you will undergo fitness tests. The fitness testing battery is the standard protocol used by Cricket Australia and includes the YoYo test, sprint times and running between the wicket times (see attached photo).
Similarly to the running session, the Tuesday weights sessions are geared toward getting you at your peak at for your season after the ACE program. They involve an initial phase of preparation and hypertrophy followed by more cricket specific power development as the program progress. In addition, you will also have you levels of recovery monitored each week using jump performance. This helps get a feel of how your body is coping and assists us in planning your weekly workload.
